In perusing the paper version of this past week’s Morrison County Record (August 10, 2008), I noticed that the Letters to the Editor section was heavy on the pro-Republican letters. In fact, all of the political letters were pro-Repub. Supposedly the Rec tries to keep things even, but I find it hard to believe that the newspaper didn’t receive a single pro-Democrat letter in the last week. If you local Dems are feeling slighted, feel free to leave your comments on Fish Wrap. Of course we’ll moderate everything – we don’t need a libel suit – but go ahead and defend your position. Because this is the web, your audience is potentially world-wide.

I very much noticed the same in last week’s McRecord. However, the gaggle of Republican (if you can call them that) comments seemed to make them look unhinged. They chant their no taxes, taxes, taxes mantra to the point of being shrill. I wonder what would happen to such folk if taxes somehow became completely miniscule? Would they lose purpose? Would they become despondent and go out in the barn and throw a rope over a sturdy joist? Nah, they’d probably start screaming about school lunch programs and how it’s part of the welfare state.

You’re right, Ron, the letter writers’ comments do start sounding shrill. Have you noticed that the same people keep commenting over and over? It gets so that if I see a name I’ve seen before, I don’t even bother to read the letter because I can predict exactly what it’s going to say.
Thanks for leaving your comment. It gave this fish a good chuckle. – Phineas
